Helping Hands

Our group formed originally with a number of women from our church who held the same passion for sewing for others in need.

After our first quilt show, we opened this group to the community and since then we have grown significantly.

Helping Hands meets on the third Saturday of each month from 1-4 pm.

Originally we were sewing for ‘Mission without Borders’, which covered a number of eastern European countries, however, the cost of shipping became prohibitive and we have since linked up with organisations closer to home.

In the past few years, our quilts have traveled to Russia, Romania, Eastern Europe, Timor, Outback Queensland and wherever there was a need.

Currently, we are quilting for:

  • Victims of Domestic Violence – Brisbane
  • Ryder Cheshire Foundation – Timor
  • Quilts of Valour – Returned Service Men and Women
  • Be Uplifted – Breast Cancer
  • Brisbane Children’s Hospital Brisbane – Chemo Quilt Wraps
  • Redcliffe Hospital – Dignity Quilts Intensive Care Ward
  • Brisbane Children’s Hospital, Logan Hospital, and Redcliffe Hospital – Tote bags for foster children at Christmas

Helping Hands predominately works with donated fabrics. We do have stalls throughout the year to fund our batting requirements and any additional embellishments.
